Homework, homework, and MORE HOMEWORK!!

I feel like this poor guy in the above picture and I'm not even in school anymore!!

Cameron has had some difficulty in school lately.  His teacher is good for him but is REALLY STRICT!  She is really picky on handwriting and reading.  I know....that's a good thing.  Cameron is somewhat of a "LAZY" boy.  He tries to find excuses to get out of things he doesn't like doing. I've had to instruct him that he needs to mind his own business while at school and to do his work like his teacher says. Anyway, I've been spending literally an hour or more on homework with him every night. I make him write his spelling words at least 3 times with the sentences. If he writes sloppy, I erase it and make him write it over again.  We also read for at least 20 mintues.  (He brings home 3 books every day)  I know that all the hard work will pay off. His handwriting is already improving....I just hope he keeps it up and I can keep my sanity.

In the mean time, Austin doesn't have quite as much daily homework and he's pretty good about doing it himself. He occasionally needs help with his math. Well, in the last two weeks, Austin has brought home 3 different notes.  One of them is he has to come up with a science fair project due by Feb. 17th.  The second note is he has to do a two page written report on an animal in Utah including a diarama (I had to look up what the word even meant). That is due next week. The third note was that he is required to join the school (or maybe it's just his class....I don't remember) choir.  He has to be at school an hour early on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Just a side note....Cameron is taking a Math Tutoring class so he stays after school for 45 minutes every day!  Oh, and another side note.....I only had to do ONE science fair project in jr. high and my grandpa did it for me....so at the age of 34, I still have NO CLUE how to put together a science fair project for a 4th grader.

I guess the point of my whole post is that I'm learning that having two kids in school is almost like being in college.  Yes, the kids still have to do their homework but me as the parent, is required to help....which can be a little overwhelming!  School didn't end when I graduated....LOL.   I think I'll be eating, breathing, and dreaming around LOTS of homework for the next couple months!

I do think teachers keep kids busier these days. But then that's a good thing as to them not being able to get into as much trouble. I remember the days....
